New Skirt

I have been wanting to make some skirts and just haven't had the time. I haven't been able to sleep lately, so Saturday night when I got home around midnight, I wasn't tired so I decided to start a skirt. I used some fabric that I got from the DI and then the lace is from Bernina, it is probably as old as the store. It was $.65 a yard and I used about 4 yards. I made up the pattern and just looked at some of my other skirts to create it. I love it and can't wait to create some more. Let me know what you think.

Projects!!!

So I have acquired way too much fabric. At the quilt guild they challenged us to finish all of our projects by the closing social which will be in May. So here is a picture of all of the fabric that I need to make stuff with. The photo does not show all of my fabric, I know it is sick! So, hopefully I have a lot of new projects to show off!

Etsy Shop!!

So I have been told that I need to start an Etsy shop. I created an account awhile ago, but haven't had time to put anything on it. Right now I am just loading on photos that I already have. So I will get busy and make some new hair accessories and what not. Check it out. I still don't have it all set up, but I am working on it. Any tips on shipping? I guess I need to go to the Post Office and get an idea of what to charge. Hope you enjoy! Send your friends and family to it!

Pad Thai

I love to cook, lately I have loved experimenting with other flavors and spices. I have been making some Indian food and Thai food. I first started with pre made mixes and now I am trying to make them from scratch. I found this recipe online and I love it. I think it tasted good, but I no longer have someone to test it on, so if any one wants to sample let me know! :) I can never actually follow recipes, I think I have to add to them or make my own twist to it. I will put the actual recipe and then in parenthesis what I did differently. Sometimes this is bad! Sorry I don't have any photos, because I didn't think I would like it as much; next time I make it there will definitely be some photos.

Pad Thai

Sauce:
1/2 cup of hot water
1 1/2 TBSP Tamarind Paste
(This was way hard to find, I didn't find it in any of the local grocery stores. I went to a Korean market and found it. It looks really gross when you open it, so don't loose your appetite when you look at it)
5 TBSP of fish sauce
(I usually don't like fish sauce as much, so I substituted it for 6 TBSP of soy sauce.)
1 Fresh red chili, minced, or 1 tsp cayenne pepper, or 2-4 tsp chili sauce
(I used the chili sauce and only put 3 tsps in, but you could add more to make it spicier, it didn't end up spicy enough)
5-6 TBSP brown sugar

Directions:
Dissolve tamarind in hot water, stir well to make sure it dissolves. Add the rest of the ingredients and stir until it is all mixed in. The mixture lasts for a couple of weeks in the fridge if you don't use it all at once.

Pad Thai Dish
You can use several different things for this, I just kind of added in what I wanted. These directions are from me, so if they don't make sense and the grammar is bad, I am sorry!

Ingredients:
Oil
1 Package of Rice Noodles
1 pound of preferred meat; shrimp, chicken, pork, or tofu.
2 eggs
1-2 Handfuls of Bean Sprouts (cup and a halfish)
10-12 Sprigs of Cilantro
1/3 cup chopped peanuts
Green onions for topping
Lime for Garnish

Directions:
Prepare noodles as directed on the package. There are a lot of different types of rice noodles, if you go to just a general grocery store you won't have as many options. There are Pad Thai noodles, or you can use any rice noodle sticks, they have different thicknesses, but it is just up to you or whatever you can find. The Korean market also had a lot of variety. I bought some really good ones at World Market and Whole Foods. Too bad Logan doesn't have either of those. I used one package, I think it was about 16 oz. That amount will use all of the sauce, but it makes a ton, so if you want to half it that would work. While cooking your noodles start preparing the rest of the dish.

Heat oil in wok (you can use wok oil, sesame oil, or vegetable oil, I used vegetable oil, because that is what I had). Once hot add your meat, you can use shrimp, chicken, pork, tofu, beef or just keep it vegetarian. I used shrimp, I added a little salt and pepper before I began cooking them. I used about 20 shrimp, but for other meats I would do about a pound, but I am not a big meat eater, so add as much or as little as you want. Cook until almost done, they will continue to cook as you add the rest of the ingredients.

Mix 1-2 eggs in side bowl and beat. Once the meat is almost done, mix into the wok. Scramble the egg, separate it as much as possible, because you don't want big chunks of egg in the dish. Add noodles and sauce, simmer until most of the sauce has either thickened or absorbed about 5 minutes. Stir in about a handful and a half of bean sprouts and cook a few more minutes. Add chopped cilantro 10-12 sprigs, just the leaves. Simmer for 1-2 minutes, take off of heat and add 1/3 cup of chopped peanuts. Top with green onions or more cilantro and garnish with a slice of lime.

mmmm... So good. This made a ton! I was kind of just testing out the recipe, so I will now be eating Pad Thai for the next week, but that is okay because it was still great the next day. Following my directions it would probably serve 6-7. So if you are just making it for a few, you could probably half it.

Hope you enjoy!

2010 Goals

I am a big fan of goals and checklists. I think it helps me achieve them if other people know that I have them. I know it is now February, but I had a hard time deciding on them and I have had a hard time with life lately.

Go to the temple once a week.

Study more diligently on Sundays and not sleep all day.

Learn how to submit names to the temple from my own family history.

Be more confident in myself and my abilities.

Read a book a month.

Study something new.

Use my gym pass at least once a month.
(This will be an improvement, I think the last time I used it was in May. ooops!)

Use my outdoor equipment more.

Establish working hours. I now work 10:00-7:00, unless I have an actual photo shoot. No more working all hours of the night.

Wake up by 9:30 on weekdays.
(This is actually really hard for me. It is hard to start working early if no one is making me.)

Pay quarterly taxes on time and take it out as I am paid.

Save money.

No more buying fabric for new projects until I have finished all of my quilts.

Put my stuff on Etsy.

Humanitarian trip to Africa or Nepal.

Clean house twice a month. (Vacuum, clean bathrooms and kitchen.)

Cook different ethnic dishes at least something new each month.

I also have my other goals that I am working on. I have to accomplish the other ones before I am 25, my time is ticking. I am getting old!

Christmas Decorations

This year I had a lot of good intentions to make ornaments, a christmas tree skirt and stockings. My room mate and I went to the DI and found A LOT of wool, we had everything skirts, pants, sweaters and old man suit coats. They were all 100% wool, so we (mainly me) cut up all of the clothes and then we felted them. We found some great patterns and colors. Now I have a butt load of wool. I thought I was going to have oodles of time to get this all accomplished, and then my time was occupied. I started dating someone and all of my time went to him. It was well worth only having two ornaments on my tree for the Christmas season. It was probably the best time I have ever had, and I was with him 24-7 and only a few of my projects for Christmas got finished. Things have now sadly changed and I don't have him as a distraction. I am going crazy without him, now you will see a lot of posts of all of the things that I am trying to do to make up not being with him. I would give it all up for him, life can have so many unexpected changes. Who knows where my life will head now, it feels so empty and incomplete. This is one of the two owls that I got done.

Antiqued Bridal Accessories

Lately I have been loving vintage weddings, if you don't know me I am a wedding photographer, so I am around weddings all of the time. Because of this I am constantly thinking about weddings (only because of my job!) I know I shouldn't be making stuff for weddings, because I am so far from it. I couldn't resist. The other day I was at my moms house rummaging through all of my old stuff. I was looking for the old jewelry that I use to play with from my grandma, I had no luck with finding those, but I came across some cool old lace from my great grandma. Once I found it, ideas were running through my head and I had to make something with it. The next day I went to my grandpas to see if I could find some of the old jewelry and I found the jackpot, they were all perfect. This one I probably won't use, because I want to make mine a lot more intricate, but this is just a taste of what is to come. One day if I ever get married and if it is still in style I will have a cool hair piece with something from my grandma and great grandma. I am excited to figure something out! It looks great with either soft curls, stuck in the side or at the side of a low swoopy, curly bun.

Headband

I know you love the photos of myself. But it looks so much cuter in the hair rather than on a table.

More Headbands!

On Christmas Eve I was showing Whitney and Sue Ann the beauties of Anthropologie (I think this is like the 4th post of my love for it). And we found this head band, it is way cute, but it is $20. So we decided to make it. And I love it! It looks cuter on, but I am sure you are all sick of my photos of myself, so I need a model in order to display my stuff better! The second one is the one that I made (if you couldn't tell).

These other headbands are just on elastic headbands that you can get at grocery stores.

New Quilt Project

Here are some more photos so you can get the idea of what I am doing. The finished quilt is out of the Anthropology magazine. The other photo is on my progress. I have a lot done, but I have used so much fabric it is sick for the little amount that I have done.

I don't know what this quilt is called, but I saw the image in an Anthropologie catalog. Anthropologie has to be one of my favorite stores! So here are some pieces to it and hopefully it gets finished soon, it will hopefully be way cute. The quilt is put together with varying sizes of circles. It was hard to find circles big enough to trace, but these are some of the things that I found in my cupboards, and they worked very nice. One down fall is that it uses a ton of fabric! Most of the fabric that I am using is Joel Dewberry and one from Anna Marie Horner.

Scarves

I found a new obsession. (Like I need more than I have now.) I have loved crocheting lately. I found some patterns I bought off of Etsy. Their site is www.whiletheyplay.com Sorry for the cheasy photos of myself, but I had to give them for Christmas presents and wanted photos of them.

Sarah's Quilt

This quilt was from scraps from my Spring Fever quilt, I used a disappearing 9 patch pattern. Sue with Summit Creek Quilts quilted this for me, she used the all over quilting. It looked good, but more than I wanted to spend.

Extra Onsies

I made these for the boutique, and not many people came, so I had a ton left over. Good thing I have a lot of babies, oh wait, not even married! I had some patterns that I made, but then lost them, so I don't love these designs, but I had to get them done for the boutique.

Shoes!

Oh my, so I found this cute shoe pattern from Precious Patterns on Etsy. They were so fun to make, I especially loved decorating them. I want to make a few changes to the pattern, but I just need to find the time, I don't love how they look on the inside, so I will work on that. I used Anna Maria Horner fabric (probably my favorite fabric!)
