I just love this color and I got a new skirt from Anthropologie and I needed something mustard to go with it, so this is what I came up with. In the photos with the books, the top book I found at the DI. I thought the cover was funny, I want to make a notebook out of the cover.
I got this fabric in Burley, ID at an old fabric store, I love this place! I am so glad my friend Becki lives by it! I just used other old stuff that I have gotten from the DI to embellish it. Thanks Erica for being my model in all of these!
I love making different styles, you can tell which ones I did together. Each day I kind of adopt a new style, I wasn't doing it on purpose, but after looking at them altogether you can tell which ones I did at the same time. I got this fabric at the DI, I love the retroness of it! I got the flower from my great-grandma. I love getting old and stuff and giving it new life! I also got this fabric from the DI, I made it to match the skirt that I made, I love it! I was proud of myself after completing the outfit. The little jewel is also an old clip on from my grandma. I love Zebra fabric, I am a little obsessed right now! This fabric was from an old wool skirt at the DI, I kind of like the roll effect! I love this button! I have also got into using feathers, I didn't think I would like them, but I do. Items seem kind of boring now without them. I went back packing with Justin to the Wind Rivers and of coarse I had to have a hiking headband. I had to stay in touch with my girly side, I refer to myself as a prissy granola. More Zebra! I have been really into grey lately, I think it is simple and classy. I have also had a mustard obsession, I think it looks great with bold colors!
I finally finished the binding on this quilt, I hate doing the bindings. I am trying so hard to finish projects, I just love starting new ones! Also the photos are pretty bad, I don't have a big space to do photos of quilts so they are boring!
These aren't great photos, but I just wanted to post it. It still needs some tweaking to the pattern, I was just making up the sizes, and forgot to adjust some of them. I also should have done the design darker.
What a great weekend, at first I thought it was not going to be fun to have the 4th of July on a Sunday, but I was wrong. It was one of the best weekends, this summer has been so great! Probably one of the best ones! Here is a review of what we did, it was a non stop weekend.
Thursday, July 1st
One of my friends called and had free tickets to Peter Cetera, I didn't recognize the name (I am not very good with music). So we decided to go for a bit and then leave if it was lame. It definitely was not lame, I loved every minute of it. At the first of the concert American Festival Chorus and Orchestra played some patriotic songs. It was really great, it made me really love the country that we live in. Peter Cetera ended the concert with a fabulous performance, once he started to sing I recognized his songs.
Friday, July 2nd
It was our friends birthday, so we had a bbq at his place. After we went and watched the fireworks in Logan. I love the summer and especially the fireworks.
Saturday, July 3rd
Some of the people in my ward invited me to go float the narrows. Rissa and I decided to go, when we got to the top it was 60 degrees and windy. No thanks! I didn't want to be miserable! So we drove back home and decided to try and attempt it on Monday.
We went back to Logan and played some volleyball at Merlin Olsen Park. We got challenged by some Polynesians, they were really good and we got our butts kicked, but it was fun!
After that we decided last minute to drive to Salt Lake to see the fireworks at Sugar House, they were also amazing. We sat next to the cutest family. Their kids were so funny during the fireworks, the little 3 year old decided we were best friends and sat right next to me the entire show, she was so funny! We decided to sit it out at the park until the traffic was down, and we witnessed a lot of interesting things. The couple next to us forgot that they were in public, we got fireworks shot over our heads by these two punk kids and saw two men roll down the hill while hugging onto each other. The night was so great!
Sunday, July 4th
I went to church and it was great, I love to sing the patriotic songs in Sacrament meeting. This weekend I really had a deep appreciation for the country that we live in, we are so truly blessed! In Relief Society a quote was read that I really like, I don't know the reference to the talk.
"Look back in retrospect on almost six thousand years of human history! Freedom's movements have been infrequent and exceptional. We must appreciate that we live in one of history's most exceptional moments-in a nation and a time of unprecedented freedom. Freedom as we know it has been experienced by perhaps less that 1 percent of the human family."
Doesn't that bring chills to you? I always think of how lucky I am to be apart of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I wonder why I was chosen to be apart of this great work. I always think of the small percentage of people that know what I know, but I have never thought of it in a way with being free and living in the great land of America. I am always grateful for what I have and I know that I am blessed. I am so grateful for all of those that have sacrificed to make it possible to live here and to have so many great opportunities and freedoms.
Monday, July 5th
Rissa slept over at my house Sunday night and we watched Post Grad, great movie, I would highly recommend it!
We woke up at 7 am, yes I know I never do this (wake up early, I usually sleep at least another 2 hours) and when the alarms went off we wondered why we were doing it. We went to the Lewiston parade and it started at 9ish. We got a load of candy, and we didn't have to do anything for it, it just landed on our blanket! Perfect! After the Parade we walked around the little fair.
After we went to float the Oneida Narrows. I don't know why I have never done this, I have lived in Cache Valley my entire life. I have been missing out for the past 24 years! It was so fun! I was the only one that fell off of their tube (twice). I was having issues, but it was great fun. I accidentally ran into the pole under the bridge and back flipped off of my tube and cut up my leg on the rocks, then I almost tipped a large man off of his tube. I could barely retrieve my tube because I was laughing so hard. My stomach is soar today from laughing so hard all day yesterday! After I finally got back on I decided to fall off again backwards in some rapids...it was great! I will post some photos of this, my friend Erica followed us along the river and took photos, they are probably all beautiful photos of me in my swimsuit, so they may not make it on the blog!
We went back to Logan and played some sand volleyball at Willow Park. It was great and we definitely are starting to look professional like the photo above. (Not quite!) We had some more good laughs with volleyball. Let's just say Stacey has a pretty good aim when she hits the ball. And this interesting fellow came and tried to chat with us, he kind of resembled Wolverine. He began playing on the court next to us, and the next we looked over he was playing in his undies. We all lost it and could barely play. Towards the end, he tried to come talk to us (still in his undies), he got mad at us for secluding people. I would have been really nervous and scared for my life if he would have had clothes on, because he probably would have had a gun hiding somewhere...he was really interesting!
After volleyball we made our way back to Lewiston for some more fireworks to end the perfect weekend. The entire weekend was a blast and I was surrounded by some great friends and also made some new friends. I know that was the longest post, but it was a great weekend!
(All photos were taken from the internet, hopefully they will be replaced by some actual photos that we took.)
My mom was telling me about this and I have seen them around town. I decided to try it and I loved it! I ordered a lite basket and it was only $12.95. They have designated locations and times to pick them up.
In my basket I got 4-zucchini's 2 heads of lettuce bunch of green onions 2 florets of broccoli bunch of radishes (I don't know if I like them, but it will be a good opportunity to try them.) 1 red pepper 1 tomato 4 oranges 3 lemons 4 plums 2 white peaches basket of strawberries
I thought it was a great deal! It also gives you stuff that you don't usually use, so you get to try new things.
With all of my veggies I made my own Rumbi Grill rice bowls, they were delicious. With the fruit I made an amazing smoothy and added some spinach that I had in the fridge to add in some iron.
Well I tried to link it to their website, but I am not very smart and couldn't get it to work, but you can see the web address, so type it in! :)
I love these random bags, I love the random colors, anything goes on these bags. Thanks Ginge for the fabric! The flowers are made from the lining of the old man jackets that I cut up for the wool. I know that sounds gross, I washed them! I wanted to put big rings on the straps, I looked every where in Cache Valley, I went to all of the craft stores and hardware stores and found nothing. I went in this one hardware store and I felt really out of place! So if anyone knows where to find them let me know. I also looked online and had no luck, but I am not very good with finding stuff online.
1/2 Package of Vermicelli noodles (if you can't find these, the bean noodles work, they may even be the same thing, I have no idea.) 1 tsp fresh grated ginger 2 scallions, slice into thin pieces (if you don't have them or can't find them, you can use a yellow onion.) 2 cloves of garlic 1/2 bag of match stick carrots 1 Handful of snow peas, thinly sliced length wise 1/2 bag of spinach, chopped 1 handful of bean sprouts 1 Tbsp chopped fresh cilantro 1 Tbsp of fish sauce 2-3 Tbsp of soy sauce 1 package of spring roll wrappers
Directions:
Start cooking noodles, cook as package directs.
Heat oil in wok, add ginger, scallions, and garlic. Saute for one minute.
Add carrots, and snow peas. Cook for 2-3 minutes. Add spinach, sprouts, cilantro, fish sauce and soy sauce.
Cut noodles, about 2 inch pieces. (They won't be easy to cut because they get stuck together, so just chop them up a bit.) Cook 3-4 minutes. Let cool and then put a spoonful in spring roll wrappers. Put the ingredients in diagonal and fold in two diagonal ends and then roll. I dip my fingers in water and rub on the corner to stick it to the roll. You can beat an egg white and coat them, I never do. Fry in wok. Enjoy!
Coconut Shrimp Curry Recipe from Sunset Magazine February 2010 Serves 4 Time 20 minutes
cumin, turmeric, garam masala, and paprika
Ingredients
2 Tbsp. olive oil 1 cup chopped onion 1/2 tsp. of each cumin seeds, ground turmeric, garam masala, and paprika 2 Tbsp. minced garlic 1 lb peeled, deveined medium shrimp 1 can coconut milk 1 tsp. kosher salt 3 cups cooked basmati rice 1/4 cup of cilantro leaves
Directions:
1. Heat oil in a large frying pac over medium heat. Cook onion until soft, about 2 minutes. Add spices, garlic, and shrimp and cook, stirring, until fragrant, about 2 minutes. Add coconut milk an dsalt, simmer 10 minutes.
2. Spoon curry over rice. Garnish with cilantro.
My additions to the recipe:
I added about a cup of each: Zucchini Carrots Mushrooms Red Pepper Because I added so many other veggies, I doubled the spices, and added another can of coconut milk. This fed 6 and then some left overs. Also if you want to give it more spice add some jalepeno pepper or some serranos. I also added some chili powder because I didn't have either of those peppers. This recipe is very tasty and easy! I cooked mine in my tagine (clay pot type thing.) But a wok or big frying pan would work.
